Bio

Dr. Ron Elson joined the UC Berkeley University Health Services Psychiatry team as the Chief of Psychiatry in 1994 and now serves as staff psychiatrist. Ron is on the Editorial Board of the Berkeley Wellness Letter, a leading online and print resource for evidence-based wellness information, and on the Board of Bay Psychiatric Associates, the largest psychiatry group in the East Bay. For many years he was on the UC Berkeley faculty and the Director of a graduate Doctor of Mental Health Program. Ron has lectured and organized training in many areas of psychiatry and mental health.

Ron’s clinical work emphasizes the integration of psychodynamic, interpersonal, and cognitive-behavioral areas when considering medication for anxiety and depression. His interests include the use of meditation, art, writing and other creative processes, as well as normative life and developmental issues — particularly in relation to academic work and graduate student issues.
